Reading/Writing Assessments

Training Gifted Minds offers assessments in reading, writing, and math development. These assessments check for learning issues and developmental readiness for the required work in reading, writing, and/or math.

Assessment for Reading/Writing Development

Beginners

Reading/Writing—Beginners                                                                                                 $400

Reading Assessments

Purpose: To evaluate child’s reading development or understanding

Testing for:

  1. Concepts of Print
  2. Letter/sound identification
  3. Ability to Read High frequency words
  4. Retell for Comprehension (able to include the main point of a story)
  5. Level of reading development

Writing Assessments

Purpose: To evaluate the child’s understanding of written language

Testing for:

  1. Sound/letter recognition
  2. Can write from dictation
  3. Can read back what was written
  4. Evaluate level of writing development

Dysgraphia*

Purpose: Evaluating for Symptoms of Dysgraphia or Signs of Disorientation while writing letters and sentence, working with clay.

Evaluating Symptoms:

  • Reversals or omission of letters
  • Incorrect sequence of letters
  • Repeat of letters
  • Poor letter formation
  • Spatial awareness
  • Inconsistency in letters: use of lower and upper case letters together
  • Incorrect spacing between letters/words
  • Need to start at “a” in order to do the alphabet
  • Letters flipping and turning
  • Sentence structure
  • Line or Motion Triggers

*Can be assessed if child is able to write sentences

Struggling Readers

Reading Assessments

Purpose: To evaluate the child’s reading struggles

Testing for:

  1. Reading level
  2.  Comprehension
  3.  Use of cue systems for reading
  4.  Dyslexic issues
  5.  Knowledge of phonograms
  6.  Usage of phonetic rules
  7.  Identifying best reading strategies for client

Dyslexia

Purpose: To see if the child struggles with dyslexic tendencies: omissions, substitutions, sight words, disorientation
